Conditions

Osteospermums must be planted in a sunny position. They also prefer a well drained soil if possible. If you have heavy clay like we do, then try to improve drainage by adding grit and home made compost. Do not allow the plants to dry out completely, especially in the first two weeks after planting when the roots are trying to establish themselves.

Osteospermums normally require cooler nights for production of the flower buds. Therefore, if the night temperatures remain high, then they will stop flowering for a period.

The petals of most Osteospermums close in the evenings, although there are now a few new varieties, that stay open longer at night.
